Nigel Long

OCLC
Library Services Consultant, Western Canada
Calgary, Alberta
I joined OCLC in 2003 to promote new and existing OCLC services to libraries in western Canada. Prior to joining OCLC, I worked in a variety of libraries in Great Britain and Canada as a public library manager and as a research librarian in the areas of criminal justice and the oil and gas industry. I served as an account manager with a leading provider of library subscription services in western Canada and developed my own business. l hold an undergraduate honours degree in library science and an MBA, both from the University of Wales in Aberystwyth. Outside work I enjoy time with my wife and nine year old daughter and being in the Rockies hiking or skiing, going for a run or working in our yard.
OCLC solutions for Canada's libraries include WorldShare Management Services (WMS). WMS provides cloud-based library management and discovery applications in an integrated suite. WMS offers librarians a cost-effective way to manage workflows efficiently, and improves access to library collections and services with an integrated suite of cloud-based library management applications, all saving time and money and improve service to users. Winnipeg Public Library, the University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg use some of these services. Lethbridge College, Medicine Hat College and Portage College use the entire WMS suite to manage their libraries. With WorldCat Discovery, library users can discover more than 2 billion electronic, digital and physical resources through a single search. The cooperative also offers virtual reference; resource sharing and cataloguing services. Partner with cataloguing experts to assist with your library's needs through OCLC Canada Library Technical Services in Winnipeg. Through membership, libraries contribute to the cooperative and benefit from the services, research, and advocacy and advancement programs.
